Beat that, 2011.

Let’s review:

January: I passed boards! Really, that would have been enough for me for the year.

February: Vacation in Puerto Vallarta. Came home and adopted a puppy. He still blows me away with cuteness and loveability and aaaaaaaaaahhhh!!!!stopeatingmyshoes!!!!!!

March: Busy with school. Two weeks at a shelter in Kansas City, spaying and neutering. The clam before the storm, I can now see.

April: Got engaged. Started planning our wedding. Got something of a nightmare offer for my dream job.

May: GRADUATED.  Turned down my dream job.  Moved in with my now-husband.

June: Worked seriously on my business plan. Enjoyed and fretted over much free time. Planned wedding.

July: Officially vacated the apartment I lived in for four years of vet school. Became committed to opening the new practice, which was horrifying.

August: Got married in Maine. Spent my honeymoon cleaning up my condo in Boston.

September: Signed many, many, many documents to borrow a lot of money. Bought a building. Bought a lot of stuff. Came this close to a nervous breakdown. Opened a vet practice.

October, November, December: Ran a vet practice with reasonable success.

It’s not an easy year to top, but I have high hopes for 2011. I have SO MANY THINGS that I want to accomplish, on both a personal level and with the practice.  I am terrifically excited and hopeful. Happy New Years!

I have been following your blog for a while now and I have enjoyed learning about your experiences with your new practice. When I graduate from vet school I hope to open my own practice and I would like to ask you a few questions while the answers are still fresh in your mind, if you don’t mind sharing. What books did your mentor send you home with in May? Any advice on how to do a feasability study? Any particular web sites or books that can help with a business plan and financial projections? You can email me at browneyes196625@yahoo.com if you don’t mind sharing.

I am looking forward to reading about your 2011 adventures.

  3. Hey!

I just read up on your blog. Its a really encouraging read. I’m a masters student in Scotland right now after just graduating from Carolina. In the midst of my dissertation I’ve kinda decided vet school might be for me…but the list of prereqs is really discouraging. Your journey through vet school makes it seem like it’s worth it. I’m trying to get in this October…and have seven prereqs to complete by the end of next spring. ugh. Congratulations on the practice. Sounds like you love it. If you have any advice on how to cram in prerequisites and stay sane…it would be much appreciated :) . Best of luck!

    Hi Sarah,

Best of luck with everything! I have no advice other than to keep in mind the end result – because it really is worth it, so long as it really is what you want to do! Thanks so much, and hang in there!
