the last monday

27 April 2009

For no good reason, my alarm went off at 6:30 (me = ambitious the night before). I stayed in bed until 7:45, made some coffee, didn’t shower, and made it to school by 8:30.

I stopped in the library and chatted with my friends for a bit before class (large animal medicine) started at 9. Then Infectious Diseases at 10, and Toxicology at 11.

Tox got out early, so at 11:30, I dropped my stuff back in the library, and went downstairs to pick out a cat for that afternoon’s surgery (I would be surgeon, and the humane society cats get dropped off in the morning). I had to choose between females who needed just a spay; females who needed a spay and a front declaw; and one cryptorchid. Feeling slightly like I was passing up a good opportunity to do my first cryptorchid surgery, I went for the adorable little calico who didn’t need a declaw.

With the cat claimed, I went back upstairs, changed into scrubs, microwaved my lunch (Thai leftovers! yay!), brought it back to the library and putzed around on the internet for a half-hour.

Then it was surgery time and it all went very well. I love feeling competent at it. I had the uterus out in 30 minutes, and took another 15 or so to close the incision. Smooth, no complications.

We woke up the kitty, cleaned up after ourselves, and headed for the hills. I’m at the coffee shop now, with a slew of things to do: catch up on infectious diseases, write my surgery report, study radiology and ophthalmology. Also, I have to get back to school this evening to check on the little cat. I hope she’s doing well.

Only four days left!

[update: the kitten is doing very well! i, however, am not so much - haven't accomplished nearly as much studying as I had hoped. Surgery midterm is Weds and I have yet to crack a book. Boo.]
